Type Rating
Specialised training that qualifies a licensed pilot to operate a particular aircraft type and its complex systems. Type ratings are usually taken by pilots preparing for airline work on a specific fleet.
Eligibility, medicals and recognition
Before applying
Confirm the aircraft type, underlying licence, instrument and multi-engine prerequisites, experience, theory, and any multi-crew or upset-recovery prerequisites with the regulator and provider. Check whether base training or an approved alternative is included.
Medical planning
Keep the professional medical, aviation language proficiency and underlying licence current. Confirm individual medical limitations with the authorised examiner rather than the training salesperson.
Using the qualification in India
Confirm DGCA acceptance of the provider, simulator, syllabus, examiner and test evidence before paying. Overseas course completion is not automatic endorsement on an Indian licence, an airline offer, or permission to operate without further airline training.
